Health Care

Our country’s economic growth depends on a healthy productive population and a society enjoys more satisfaction and life happiness when the members of its family units are healthy and able. Great health is therefore fundamental to our individual and national experience.

In representing the interests of St. James South, I have engaged too many of our seniors who are challenged to live on pensions against the backdrop of rising health costs (now including VAT on over-the- counter medications) and declining health services. NCDs now ravage the lives of younger and younger people and scourge of cancer is present.

In representing the interests of the constituents of St. James South, I have engaged too many of our seniors who are challenged to live on their fixed pensions against the backdrop of rising health costs (now including VAT on over-the- counter medications) and declining health services. NCDs now ravage the lives of younger and younger people and scourge of cancer is present.

I will work to promote and support community level wellness programmes to augment the efforts made by the road warriors daily who exercise and seek to stay in shape.   I will agitate in a BLP government for the allocation of resources to enable individuals, community groups, churches, schools and NGOs in disseminating healthy life-style information.  I will engage those involved in agriculture with a view to enhance the production and marketing of locally grown food, in support of healthy eating and at the same time enhancing our food security.

Importantly, I will, as a member of a BLP government, seek to ensure that our health care system is a first world system, delivering the quality care and service you expect from a caring government and a well managed economy.

The Hon. Sandra Husbands M.P. - St. James South
